In 2003, a nationwide competition called " R U All That? Nickelodeon's Search for the Funniest Kid in America" was held with Christina Kirkman winning the contest and joining the show in it's ninth season. The eighth season premiered with Jamie Lynn Spears, younger sister of Britney Spears joining the show.
In 2000, All That returned to Nickelodeon with a new cast of kids: Chelsea Brummet, Jack DeSena, Lisa Foiles, Bryan Hearne, Shane Lyons, Giovonnie Samuels, and Kyle Sullivan. However, due to the show having a strong following and being one of the most popular shows on the network, Nickelodeon planned to relaunch the show, starting fresh. Amanda Bynes, who joined the cast in it's third season received her own show The Amanda Show, which also aired on Nickelodeon and lasted three seasons.Īfter the show's sixth season, Nickelodeon cancelled the show due to crew disputes and wanting to move on.
The show would grow in popularity over the years with some cast members making departures and some additions being made, the series would spawn spin-offs with cast members Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell starring into their own show Kenan & Kel, which aired on Nickelodeon for four seasons and also being the leads of a theatrical film Good Burger, which is based off a skit of the show. The usual premise of the show is that the show would start with a cold open (which features the cast members participating in juvenile acts in the green room before the show starts), then several sketches would be shown, and end with a musical guest performance.
However, regardless of the negative reception, the show was picked up for a full season by president at the time, Geraldine Laybourne. The cast would later consist of: Angelique Bates, Lori Beth Denberg, Katrina Johnson, Kel Mitchell, Alisa Reyes, Josh Server, and Kenan Thompson.Īfter filming for the pilot was completed, it sat on the shelf for several months and did not do well at test groups with children. After getting the blessing from Hecht, the three started searching nationwide for child and teen actors which would last for several months. Once the pilot for the show was greenlit, Tollins and Schneider decided not to start writing for the show as they felt it was better to find a cast of kids first. After the two filmed a documentary for Nickelodeon and was impressed with the final product, Robbins later met with Head of Development Albie Hecht to discuss developing a new show for the network as Robbins responded by giving the idea of having a kid-version of Saturday Night Live. A nationwide talent search commenced as the producers ended up hiring: Angelique Bates, Lori Beth Denberg, Katrina Johnson, Kel Mitchell, Alisa Reyes, Josh Server, and Kenan Thompson.Brian Robbins and Mike Tollins created the show, along with writer Dan Schneider helping develop the show as well. However, the team decided to find their cast of kids first before starting the writing process. Robbins pitched the idea of making a " Saturday Night Live" for kids as writer Joe Davola, Dan Schneider, Kevin Kopelow, and Heath Seifert were brought on board to help write for the show. The show was also taped exclusively at Nickelodeon Studios which was located in Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.Īfter You Can't Do That on Television ended production in 1990, Nickelodeon had interest in creating another sketch-comedy series as the network asked Brian Robbins and Mike Tollin to create a new show. This is also the first season in the "Golden Era" of the show. The show ran as a special preview on Apbut officially premiered as a regular series on Decemand ended on Apwith airing a total of 14 episodes. Nickelodeon Season 1 is the first season of the sketch-comedy series All That on Nickelodeon.
